Dr. Toa Lapanukrom (director general of Department of Science, the first) is the one who initiated the operation in concrete science. With the vision ,knowledge and understanding of science importance as a key to progress the country in various fields, a major factor for nurturing the scientific wisdom of the nation has to improve the organization of the library of Department of Science in 1935 and is committed to the intention of developing the science library in Thailand just like a civilized country to encourage people in having/using scientific knowledge to build technological capabilities, economic development and quality of life. The science library is a successful strategy for sustainable development of the country as well as education and increase in scientific knowledge of national importance.
Also, it is widely known as "Library of Department of Science Service" (DSS). In 1978, it had been raised as the name "Division of Science and Technology Information" (DSTI). Due to the reform of public administration in order to lead a new government more efficient division, the amended law on the improvement of the Division of Science and Technology Information has been converted into "Bureau of Science and Technology Information'(BSTI) since 2002.
